Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola has urged politicians to refrain from interfering with the judiciary’s work.
Taiwo Adisa, the chief press secretary to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, issued a statement on Sunday in Ibadan quoting Mr Ariwoola as saying this on Saturday at a reception hosted by the government in his honor.
Mr Ariwoola also warned judicial officers to stay out of politics.
I want to admonish the politicians to leave the judiciary alone for us to function. Let them do their own thing while we do ours too. Law is not static; what we apply is the law as it is made, he said.
The CJN thanked Mr Makinde for honouring him and promised not to let Nigerians down.
The governor stated in his remarks that his administration would continue to promote the independence of the judiciary in the state.
Mr Makinde stated that his administration had created an enabling environment for the government’s judicial arm to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
“We will continue to allow the judiciary to function independently,” the governor said, acknowledging that the judiciary is the “bastion” of hope for the ordinary person.
The judiciary will be allowed to continue to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
Mr Makinde noted that Oyo State was producing the CJN for the first time in Nigerian history and that the development has heralded many ground-breaking achievements for the state. CONTINUE READING…………………………………..
