Osun@35: Online Publishers Urge Commitment to Omoluabi Values, Youth Empowerment

THE Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, has congratulated the people of Osun State at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the state’s 35th anniversary, calling for renewed commitment to the Omoluabi values that define the “State of the Virtuous.”

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday and signed by its Chairman, Abioye Tosin Lawrence, Secretary, Adekale Babatunde, and Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Raji, the association said the foundation of any great society rests on the collective commitment of citizens to doing what is right, irrespective of political, social or economic differences.

OOPA described integrity, hard work, respect and communal responsibility as Osun’s greatest assets.

“Osun State is renowned for its Omoluabi character. These values have distinguished our people over the years and must be maintained irrespective of political divides. We must continue to love our state dearly so that together we can reap the benefits of a peaceful, progressive and prosperous society,” the statement read.

Reflecting on the state’s 35-year journey since its creation in 1991, the association acknowledged the contributions of past and present leaders to Osun’s development, noting that their efforts form part of the state’s enduring history.

However, OOPA urged policymakers and stakeholders to do more to empower young people through innovative policies, quality education, entrepreneurship support and opportunities that will unlock their potential.

“Thirty-five years may be less than four decades, but it presents an opportunity to evaluate our progress and chart a new course. We encourage our leaders to continue developing policies that will enhance the capacity of young people and prepare them for leadership in a rapidly changing world,” it added.

The association expressed optimism that Osun would produce more professionals and innovators in engineering, medicine, law, aviation, technology and entrepreneurship who can drive development across sectors.

OOPA also called for a more inclusive Osun where every citizen has a sense of belonging and equal opportunity to pursue their aspirations through diligence, innovation and good governance.

It prayed for divine wisdom for leaders at all levels and encouraged young people to embrace leadership and accountability in their daily lives.

“Leadership is not reserved for those at the top. Every individual is a leader in the capacity they occupy. Accountability, responsibility and service begin long before one attains public office. A better Osun is achievable when every citizen chooses to contribute positively to the development of the state,” the association said.

OOPA congratulated all sons and daughters of Osun on the milestone and expressed optimism that the years ahead would bring greater prosperity, unity and development.

“Congratulations to all of us as we celebrate Osun at 35. Together, we can build a greater and more prosperous Osun State.”
