THE Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Renewable Energy, Funmiso Babarinde, has declared that only members of the Ilerioluwa camp will remain in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State before the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Babarinde made the statement on Tuesday while responding to questions during a media parley organized by the Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, in Osogbo. He said the political landscape of the state is already shifting ahead of the poll.
“Before the August 15, 2026 governorship election, only the Ilerioluwa camp will remain as members of the APC,” he said. “Other political gladiators will join Governor Adeleke’s Accord train.”
The governor’s aide claimed that Governor Adeleke’s performance in office, particularly in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and youth empowerment, has weakened the opposition and strengthened the Accord in the state.
According to Babarinde, the Ilerioluwa political structure, which served as the mobilization base for former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, will be the only faction left in the APC as other core progressives defect to the Accord.
He said some APC leaders in the state were already in disarray due to internal crisis and the defection of key members to the ruling party.
“Politics is about numbers and performance. The people of Osun have seen the difference in governance under Governor Adeleke in the last three and a half years, compared to the 12 years of APC rule from 2010 to 2022. By the time we get to August 15, 2026, only Ilerioluwa loyalists will be left in APC while the rest will join the winning team,” he added.
Babarinde urged Accord members and supporters to remain united and focused on consolidating the gains of the current administration, noting that continuity in government will guarantee more development for Osun residents.
The SSA also highlighted progress in the energy sector. Speaking on the achievements of the Office of Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Babarinde stated: “We have distributed over 10,000 solar lamps in our villages, especially to children, to enhance reading at night and help them with their assignments.”
He also disclosed that through the agency’s programmes and reforms, Osun State ranked sixth among the 36 states of the federation in the Subnational Climate Governance Performance Ranking, rising significantly from the 30th position it occupied the previous year.
