RUN inducts 63 nurses, urges integrity and healthcare excellence

OSUN: The Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, on Thursday inducted graduating nurses into the nursing profession and charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and compassionate healthcare delivery.

The ceremony, which took place at the Redeemer’s University Auditorium, as 63 nursing students formally inducted into the profession after completing their academic and clinical requirements.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, said the inductees had distinguished themselves through dedication and hard work during their training and were now qualified to join the nursing profession.

Akindele said the university remained committed to producing competent healthcare professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and ethical values required to meet the healthcare needs of society.

He urged the newly inducted nurses to be worthy ambassadors of the institution by demonstrating excellence, discipline and compassion in the discharge of their professional responsibilities.

According to him, the university encourages its graduates to embrace lifelong learning and continuous professional development to remain relevant in the ever-evolving healthcare sector.

In his induction lecture, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Emmanuel Anyebe Ejembi, described the 21st-century healthcare system as dynamic and complex, urging the nurses to be resilient and prepared for its challenges.

Anyebe said healthcare institutions might not always meet their expectations but advised them to remain committed to delivering quality and compassionate care despite the challenges.

He said the nursing profession offers enormous opportunities for career advancement and urged the inductees to pursue master’s degrees and other professional qualifications to specialise in their chosen fields.

The professor also called on them to provide transformative leadership, noting that leadership is about inspiring positive change, influencing others through integrity and generating innovative ideas rather than merely occupying positions of authority.

He stressed the need for honesty, ethical practice, innovation and the effective use of technology, saying these values are essential to sustaining public confidence in the nursing profession.

Anyebe advised the nurses to protect their integrity, manage their emotions professionally, uphold the core values of the profession and allow their conscience to guide their practice.

Earlier , the Head of Department (HOD), Mrs Deborah Onisile, said their dedications and hardworking have proven then worthy of the induction.

Onisile urged them to provide comfort, hope, and healing within their professional scope as they official start their nursing by maintaining ethical standards.

She urged them to embrace innovation and also protecting the core value of the professions as they joined the global community of nurses.

Deborah charged them to always prioritise patients safety and be credible ambassadors by adhering to the nursing profession.

The event featured the administration of the induction oath on the 63 graduates, officially admitting them into the nursing profession.
