THE Osun State Government has announced plans to recruit able-bodied men and women as ad hoc road sweepers in a fresh effort to improve environmental sanitation across the state.
The recruitment is expected to support the state’s ongoing sanitation campaign, particularly along major roads and designated locations, as the government intensifies efforts to maintain cleaner and healthier communities.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced the exercise on Thursday in Osogbo in a statement issued on behalf of the Osun Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation.
Alimi said the opportunity was open to medically fit men and women who reside in the areas where they intend to work.
He explained that applicants must be at least 30 years old, physically fit and resident in their preferred locations of assignment.
The designated areas include Akoda-Abere, Ataoja-Ogo-Oluwa, Olaiya-Old Garage, Igbonna-Ayetoro, Power Line-Ota-Efun and Kobongbogboe.
Other locations listed for the exercise are Ataoja-Dele Yes Sir, Stadium-Testing Ground, Ilesa Garage, Oke-Fia-Dada Estate, Dele Yes Sir-Lameco and Oroki Housing Estate.
Interested applicants are required to submit application letters to the General Manager of the Osun Waste Management Agency at its office in the former Boreepo House, West By-Pass, Ring Road, Osogbo.
The government fixed Thursday, November 12, 2026, as the deadline for submission of applications.
According to the commissioner, the recruitment will help sustain routine road sweeping and complement other measures aimed at ensuring a cleaner, healthier and safer environment.
Applicants were also advised to confirm that they meet the requirements and live within the areas where they wish to be deployed.
The recruitment comes as the Adeleke administration continues to push its weekly environmental sanitation initiative. Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier declared every Thursday as Environmental Sanitation Day across Osun State.
Under the arrangement, residents, offices, markets, shopping malls and other public places are expected to carry out cleaning activities between 8am and 10am every Thursday.
The planned recruitment is expected to provide additional manpower for maintaining public spaces and supporting the state’s broader sanitation drive.
