Updated: Ondo govt begins process of 33 LCDAs

Ondo State Government has started the process of 33 new council areas it approved during the Executive Council meeting on Thursday.

The information and orientation commissioner, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju had hinted about the development after the meeting on Thursday.

According to the commissioner,
“We are not at liberty for disclosure because it is still subject to review by the House of Assembly. That is why I was silent on it in my statement,” the commissioner.

The Information commissioner said the state government will continue to prioritize the welfare of the people in the 18 council areas.

Similarly, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Charles Titiloye while addressing Journalists in Akure at the council meeting, disclosed that the proposed bill to establish the 33 additional LCDAs, would be sent to the state house of assembly for enactment.

Titiloye noted that as soon as the House of Assembly enacts the bill to become law, it will be assented to by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and full implementation of the 33 LCDA will commence.

The State Attorney General assured that the proposed 33 LCDA will share the same equal power and function with the existing 18 council areas once it becomes law and fully implemented.

In another development, Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Amidu Takuro said the council approved the Olora of Ora Ajowa in Akoko North West and Onikan of Etikan in Ilaje council area.

Also, the commissioner for information and orientation, Bamidele Ademola Olateju said an implementation committee on palliative has been set up and very soon, the palliatives will be rolled out to the people of Ondo state.
