Nigeria loses seven military commanders to terror, bandit attacks

From deadly insurgent assaults in Borno to the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in Katsina, the killings have intensified concerns over worsening insecurity and the safety of both civilians and security personnel.

The latest tragedy involved retired Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, who died in captivity weeks after terrorists abducted him and his wife in Katsina and demanded the release of detained bandits.

His death sparked nationwide anger, with political leaders and Nigerians condemning the government’s inability to secure his freedom.

Reacting, Peter Obi described the incident as a national tragedy and called for a stronger intelligence-led security strategy, while Sam Amadi said insecurity had become a national disaster.
