Rising insecurity in Nigeria has triggered fresh outrage after the country lost six serving military commanders and one retired Major General to terrorism and banditry within five months.

The wave of attacks began in February with the killing of Lt. Col. O.C. Okolo during a Boko Haram raid in Borno and continued through March and April, claiming more senior officers in separate insurgent strikes.
The latest tragedy involved retired Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, who died in captivity weeks after terrorists abducted him and his wife in Katsina and demanded the release of detained bandits.
His death sparked nationwide anger, with political leaders and Nigerians condemning the government’s inability to secure his freedom.
Reacting, Peter Obi described the incident as a national tragedy and called for a stronger intelligence-led security strategy, while Sam Amadi said insecurity had become a national disaster.
