Na’tl Assembly Confirms Ned Nwoko’s Defection To APC

News Update

Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta north, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The senator’s formal defection was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the red chamber on Wednesday.

The lawmaker informed his colleagues that he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of the crisis in the party.

The tussle for the position of the national secretary office between Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye has aggravated the issues in the party.

In his letter, Nwoko said there is need to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the crisis in the country’s major opposition party.

But Abba Moro, minority leader of the senate, protested against the defection notice.

Moro said there was only a disagreement within the party and the PDP is compliant with a verdict of the court of appeal which he argued was in the favour of Anyawu.

Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation, and members of Nwoko’s family were in the red chamber to witness his formal defection from PDP to the APC.

Last week, Nwoko, in a letter addressed to the chairman of the Aniocha north LGA, said the crisis in the party has not allowed him to deliver on his promises to his constituents.

“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he had said.
