OSPOLY Beats Unilorin, Two Other Universities to Win National Food Science Debate

THE Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), has emerged champion of the debate category of the Prof. Hafiz Abubakar Hybrid Competition, defeating three universities at the final stage of the national academic contest held during the 50th National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Food Science and Technology Students (NAFSTS) at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos.

The victory saw Osun poly finish ahead of Bayero University, Kano; the University of Mkar, Gboko, Benue State; and the University of Ilorin, which had qualified alongside the polytechnic for the competition’s final stage following their performances in the essay category.

The achievement represents a major milestone for the institution’s Department of Food Science and Technology, with its students demonstrating their academic ability, research knowledge, reasoning and public-speaking skills against competitors from universities across Nigeria.

Osun poly participated in all three stages of the Prof. Hafiz Abubakar Hybrid Competition, which comprised an online quiz, an essay competition and a final debate.

At the first stage, the online quiz, the polytechnic was represented by Adekilekun Rukayat Titilayo and Adebayo Tolulope Fathia.

The same students represented the institution in the second-stage essay competition, where their performance earned OSPOLY second place nationally at the semifinal and secured its qualification for the final alongside the three universities.

At the final debate, held during the 50th NAFSTS Conference at YABATECH in Lagos, OSPOLY was represented by Azeez Adewale Ikmat and Adebayo Tolulope Fathia.

Their performance secured first place in the debate category, earning the institution the competition’s trophy ahead of Bayero University, Kano; the University of Mkar, Gboko; and the University of Ilorin.
