EPL 2025/26 season: Player-friendly schedule introduced

News Update

THE English Premier League has officially announced the schedule for the 2025/26 season, which will begin on Saturday, August 16, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

In a landmark move aimed at addressing player welfare, the league has made significant changes to the congested festive period. For the first time, no two match rounds will be scheduled within 60 hours of each other during the holiday fixtures, a long-awaited adjustment to reduce the physical toll on players. Additionally, there will be no matches played on Christmas Eve in 2025, a decision that has been met with widespread approval from players and fans.

The Premier League highlighted these updates in a statement titled “Dates for 2025/26 Premier League Season Confirmed” on its official website. The league reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a balance between competitive intensity and the well-being of players.

“The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule,” the statement read.

The league also emphasized its effort to synchronize the calendar with global events. The start date of August 16 ensures an 83-day rest period following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, while the May 24 end date accommodates the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period.

Key details of the season include 33 weekends of fixtures and five midweek match rounds. Fans can anticipate an exciting nine-month competition, featuring a schedule designed to preserve the Premier League’s intensity while supporting players’ health and recovery.
