The proprietor and principal of Daarulkitab Islamic Training Centre in Kogi State, Mohammed Tajudeen, has rejected claims by the state government that his school is unregistered, insisting the institution is duly recognized by relevant authorities.

Tajudeen made the clarification on Monday following the abduction of 26 persons, including pupils from the school and its orphanage facility by gunmen on Sunday night.

The Kogi State Government, in an earlier statement, described the incident as unfortunate and alleged that the affected school was not registered.

However, Tajudeen dismissed the claim, stating that the institution is registered with both the Corporate Affairs Commission and the state Ministry of Women Affairs.

“I have documents to back our registration. Daarulkitab was registered separately,” he said.

Security agencies confirmed that 17 of the abducted victims have been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of those still in captivity.

Providing an update, the school proprietor disclosed that seven students and two matrons remain with the abductors. He also revealed that his two wives were among those taken to an unknown destination during the attack.
