THE Kebbi State Government has approved a two-hour reduction in official working hours for civil servants in observance of the Ramadan fasting period.
The directive followed the announcement of the commencement of Ramadan by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Establishment, Pension and Training, Hafsat Tune, said the governor, Nasir Idris, approved the adjustment to ease the burden on fasting workers.
According to the statement, the new working hours will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, while work will close at 12:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.
Tune explained that civil servants across the state are expected to adhere strictly to the revised schedule, noting that normal working hours would resume at the end of the holy month.
The adjustment aligns with the practice in many predominantly Muslim states in northern Nigeria, where official hours are often shortened during Ramadan to accommodate the spiritual and physical demands of fasting.
