Bandits allegedly charge Nigerian farmers #5m

News Update

Residents of Ilali village in Katsina State have reportedly been asked to pay ₦5 million to bandits as a condition for peace and safety during this year’s harvest.

The demand, which villagers describe as a “peace levy,” was said to be imposed to allow farmers access to their farmlands without fear of attack.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post shared on X on Tuesday.

“Bandits have reportedly imposed a ₦5 million levy on residents of Ilali village in Katsina State. Sources say the demand is framed as a fee for peace and safe harvest,” Bakatsine wrote.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
