Ekiti: APC Members in Ise/Orun Reject Alleged Endorsement of Toyin Okoro

News Update

Members of the All Progressives Congress in Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State have rejected the alleged endorsement of Toyin Okoro, describing it as unrepresentative of the will of the grassroots.

The party faithful, who gathered in large numbers in the area, insisted that any endorsement must reflect the collective interest of members within the constituency.

They expressed concern over what they described as an attempt to impose a candidate allegedly aligned with external political interests, including a former minister, Chief Dayo Adeyeye.

According to them, leadership decisions within the party must be guided by due process, transparency and the consent of members, rather than imposition.

The members also condemned what they termed acts of impunity, reiterating their commitment to democratic principles and internal party discipline.

They further called on the party leadership at all levels to uphold justice, equity and the rule of law in handling party affairs.

Tension, however, reportedly escalated during the attempted endorsement as some community members staged a protest, insisting that the aspirant hails from Delta State and should return there to pursue his political ambition.

The protesters were said to have chanted, “Usobo lọ a s’ule rẹ, eyi kò ṣe tán!” loosely translated as, “Urhobo, go back to your hometown, you have done enough!”

Meanwhile, supporters of Hon. Ojuawo converged on the APC Secretariat in the area, where they expressed support for their preferred aspirant through songs and dancing.

Sources said the turnout was a demonstration of grassroots backing for Ojuawo and a counter to the planned endorsement of Okoro.

The gathering reportedly disrupted the exercise, which some members described as pre-arranged and lacking broad-based support.

It was further learnt that those behind the endorsement attempt were unable to proceed and eventually dispersed following resistance from party members.

Observers said the development underscores growing unease over political activities of the APC in parts of the state, with increasing calls for voters to consider alternative options ahead of forthcoming elections.
