Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship after overpowering Mali in a thrilling final on Sunday night.
The victory, which marks their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025), cements D’Tigress as the dominant force in African women’s basketball and makes them the first team in the tournament’s history to achieve such a feat.
The final, held in Kigali, Rwanda, saw the Nigerian ladies maintain their unbeaten run with a commanding performance, fending off a determined Malian side to emerge champions once again.
With this triumph, Nigeria now boasts a total of seven AfroBasket titles, having previously won in 2003 and 2005.
The victory also earns D’Tigress a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournaments.
