In a bid to cushion the impact of the shortage of teaching personnel across Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the deployment of 1,750 members of the Imole Youth Corps to public primary and secondary schools in the state.
The move, which is a temporary measure, comes amid financial constraints hindering the immediate recruitment of full-time teaching staff by the state government.
To further complement the effort, the governor has also appealed to the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to increase the number of corps members posted to Osun schools to reduce the shortfall in manpower within the sector.
The deployed Imole Youth Corps members, who are holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and university degrees, have resumed teaching in their respective postings across all local government areas in the state.
A breakdown of the deployment shows that Ayedaade received 65 teachers, Atakumosa East 35, Atakumosa West 43, Ayedire 47, Boluwaduro 44, Boripe 33, Ede North 74, and Ede South 66.
Others include Egbedore 56, Ejigbo 87, Ife Central 61, Ife East 28, Ife North 39, Ife South 50, Ifedayo 58, Ifelodun 58, Ila Orangun 83, Ilesa East 61, Ilesa West 68, Irepodun 43, Irewole 74, Isokan 19, Iwo 87, Obokun 50, Odo Otin 77, Ola Oluwa 43, Olorunda 44, Oriade 106, Orolu 41, Osogbo 80 and Modakeke Area Office 33.
Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s focus on transforming the education system in the state, noting that the deployment was part of the strategic steps to ensure Osun ranks among the top three states in national examination performance.
He assured that the full-scale recruitment of teachers would commence as soon as the state’s financial condition improves, while commending the role of stakeholders in sustaining educational development.
He equally acknowledged the importance of continuous capacity building, stressing that the government would maintain regular training and retraining of teachers in the system.
Governor Adeleke also appreciated the support of school principals, the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Teachers and the Parents-Teachers Association, just as he recognised private school operators as key collaborators in driving educational progress in the state.
