CAF increases WAFCON prize money

News Update

THE Confederation of African Football, CAF, has announced new prize money for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The winner of the WAFCON 2024 finals will be rewarded with $1 million, according to Africa’s football governing body.

The second- and third-placed teams will receive $500,000 and $350,000 respectively.

CAF stated that the increase will reflect in the bonuses of all participating teams at the competition.

Twelve countries will compete for the ultimate prize at the WAFCON 2024 finals.

Hosts Morocco, Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are in Group A.

In Group B are Nigeria, Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.

Holders South Africa, Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania are drawn in Group C.

The competition will kick off on Saturday, with hosts Atlas Lionesses of Morocco taking on the Copper Queens of Zambia.

Former champions Nigeria will begin their campaign against Tunisia in Casablanca on Sunday.

Holders Banyana Banyana of South Africa will commence the defence of their title against the Black Queens of Ghana next week Monday.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria remain the most successful side in the history of the competition, with nine titles.
