Inside Nigeria: Cooking Gas Sells For New Price

Nigeria’s average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, rose by 2.18 per cent on a month-on-month basis, reaching N20,709.11 in May 2025, up from N20,268.06 in April.

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, disclosed this in its LPG Price Watch data for May 2025, released on Wednesday.

The data showed that Delta, Abia, and Ebonyi states recorded the highest prices for refilling a 12.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas at N23,356.56, N22,953.01, and N22,943.30, respectively.

Conversely, NBS data revealed that Yobe, Lagos, and Kebbi states had the lowest prices for refilling, at N18,500, N18,536, and N18,606.60, respectively.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the price of LPG surged by 32 percent compared to the N15,627.40 required to refill a 12.5 kg cylinder in May 2024.

NBS is yet to release its LPG Price Watch for June 2025.
