Police arrest 239 suspects after report on kidnapping in Kogi — Report

The Kogi state police command has announced the arrest 239 suspects in the last two weeks.

 

This is coming barely 24 hours after a report which highlighted the challenge of kidnapping activities in various parts of the state.

 

Addressing a news conference at the command headquarters on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of police, Millar Dantawaye gave the breakdown of those arrested as 66 armed robbery suspects,75, kidnapping suspects, 18 homicide suspects, while 21 were arrested for Unlawful possession of firearms.

 

Others are 21 rape suspects, 4 cultism suspects, and 49 other suspects.

 

The CP attributed the success recorded so far to the ongoing onslaught against criminal elements terrorising innocent people of Kogi state from February 2025 to date.

 

“To ensure, that fight against Kidnapping, Armed Banditry and other violent crimes in the state do not succeed, we have commenced training of our personnel to enhance their mental and operational capacity for better and efficient service delivery in the state.”

 

He said that Participants of Course 7 in the ongoing Refresher combat operation Training Exercise graduated last week Friday.

 

“We have also adopted Comprehensive crime prevention and control strategies in recent time through intensive patrol along the major highways, Raid of identified criminal hideouts; Black Spots and Flash Points, Conducting aggressive Stop and Search as well as massive deployment of well- trained, equipped, and motivated officers geared towards ridding Kogi State of all forms of crimes and criminality.”

 

According to him,” in the task of guaranteeing protection of lives and property of all citizens in this current security challenges, Nigeria Police has a critical role to play with specific regards to our internal security.

 

He urged all Kogites, particularly Traditional rulers, Religious leaders, Opinion leaders, Youth groups, Market bodies, farmers, Herders, Vigilantes, Hunters, Transport union, Okada union, Tricycle union, among others, for their maximum support in the fight against criminality in Kogi State. I appeal for their cooperation and understanding in the interest of public safety.

 

“Ladies and gentlemen, permit me to say that there is no Police Agency anywhere in the World, no matter how well trained, equipped or motivated, that can solely achieve its safety mandate without support from the Public”

 

He said that the Command continues to adopt common problem-solving strategies embedded in the IGP’s community policing templates, which will help to improve public confidence in service delivery.

 

“The Command has provided an avenue for effective collaboration with other critical stakeholders by giving them access to share information and intelligence that will assist in crime control and management.”

 

The commissioner also announced the recovery of various dangerous weapons, including 5 AK-47 ruffles, ammunition, magazines, and green coloured Sharon vehicle on March 11, 2025.
