JUST IN: Kano governor Yusuf splashes N17m on 85 grown-up orphans

Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has gifted N17 million to 85 grown-up orphans at Nassarawa Children’s Home to enable them start small-scale business for self-reliance.

Each beneficiary received N200,000 during an elaborate ceremony held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

The empowerment programme was designed for them to become economically dependent and build brighter future.

Governor Yusuf was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Kano, Binta Aliyu.

The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled, Amina Abdullahi Sani HOD, led the disbursement of funds, with several dignitaries in attendance.

The beneficiaries showed appreciation in fanfare as they chanted songs with elation, and praised Governor Yusuf’s generosity.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Bilkisu Maimota, representing the Secretary to the State Government; and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Women Leader.

Expressing gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the empowerment initiative, the Commissioner stated: “This gesture will surely make a significant difference in the lives of these orphans. We are grateful for the trust and confidence His Excellency has in us to execute this programme.”

The Commissioner also thanked Governor Yusuf for providing three slots of Hajj seats: two for the orphans and one for those in-charge of the home – as well as employment opportunities for the beneficiaries.

She urged the empowered individuals to use the funds judiciously.

Bintu Nuhu Yakasai, Director, Public Enlightenment, Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled stated that: “The empowerment ceremony is a testament to Governor Yusuf’s commitment to the welfare and development of vulnerable groups in the state.”

The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the Governor for the life-changing gesture.
