Why I can never turn my back against APC — Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed that he will never turned his back on the All Progressives Congress, APC, a party on which platform he was elected twice as the number one man in the country.

Buhari’s assertion was made in response to the ongoing political realignment in the country ahead of the 2027 president election.

Significantly, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State and self-acclaimed Buhari’s acolyte, Nasir- El-Rufai had last Monday abandoned the APC for the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

El-Rufai later said he informed Buhari of his intention to dump APC and got the blessing of the former president to leave the party.

This has led to speculations that Buhari may also abandon the APC, especially among supporters of the former Kaduna governor.

But the former President, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu on Thursday evening said he has not intention of abandoning the party that, according to him, supported him for the eight years he was the Nigerian leader. Nigerian entertainment events

Buhari added that rather than dump APC as being speculated, he will continue to popularise the party among Nigerians.

He added that he is a member of APC and will like to be addressed as a member of the party.

He says he wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back to the party that gave him two terms of office and would do whatever he can to popularize it. “I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means.

He went on to add that at present, he has nothing but gratitude for the support that the party gave him before and during his tenure as president, which he considers as the highest honor, and would never ask for anything more.

He further stated that the pains taken by the founding fathers to establish a strong party to protect our constitution, and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured.
