Osun 2026: Osogbo Is Not Yet Ripe For Governor – Muniru Raji Gives Reason

News Update

A prominent indigene and Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland, Alhaji Muniru Raji has declared that Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, is not yet ripe to produce Governor in 2026 rather the town should aim for unity before pursuing political ambitions.

Raji who is the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke questioned the proponents and agitators of governorship zoning to the town, describing such agitations as self-serving, ill-advised and myopic as the town needs to first put her house in order before such agitations.

Speaking during the Stakeholders Engagement of Osogbo Affairs Forum, held at Osogbo City Hall, Olonkoro, Osogbo, Raji emphasized the need for unity and collective effort to advance Osogbo’s political aspirations.

He suggested that 2030 would be a more realistic timeline for Osogbo to come together and speak with one voice hence the need for the people of the town particularly political gladiators to wait for next five years.

Alhaji Raji warned that internal disunity among Osogbo’s political stakeholders could jeopardize the chances of an Osogbo indigene becoming the governor of Osun State in the year 2030 hence the need to jettison party politics of acrimony in the quest to further build a united front and formidable frontier to achieve the goal.

“Osogbo is not ripe for a governorship push now. We need to put our house in order first. Osogbo has the potential to lead Osun State, but disunity among our people remains a significant barrier. Without a united front, achieving the dream of producing a governor from Osogbo will be nearly impossible,” he said.

Rather than campaigning for individual aspirations or engaging in premature political maneuvers, Raji urged the people of Osogbo to prioritize community building saying, “our focus should be on uniting our town and strengthening our foundations. Political ambition like Governor at this stage will only divide us”

Addressing concerns about his past political decisions, Alhaji Raji affirmed that he has no regrets supporting a candidate from another town to become a Senator instead of an Osogbo indigene.

He stressed that his decision was based on the overall interest of the state and the principles of fairness and competence.

“I stand by my decision to support a candidate from another town for the Senate. It was not about neglecting Osogbo but about doing what was best for the larger interest of Osun State,” he explained.

The Adeleke’s Special Adviser on Political Matters also cautioned political agents against exploiting the “Osogbo Agenda” for personal and selfish gains just as he the urged stakeholders to focus on genuine efforts to promote Osogbo’s collective interest rather than using it as a tool for manipulation.

“I strongly warn those using the Osogbo Agenda for their selfish interests to desist. Such actions only deepen divisions and hinder our progress as a community,” he stated.

He called on all political actors, traditional leaders, and youth organizations in Osogbo to foster unity and work collaboratively toward achieving their shared goals.

The stakeholders’ meeting, which brought together key figures from Osogbo, focused on addressing pressing political and developmental issues affecting the community.
