Chris Hughton, the coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, was attacked by a supporter, furious after the defeat of his country which lost (1-2) to Cape Verde on Sunday evening in Abidjan for its first outing in this African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023.)
According to local media Ghanasoccernet, the supporter, a member of the Black Stars fans group, went to the Ghanaian selection hotel to fight with the British technician to whom he visibly blamed the Black Stars’ defeat.
The aforementioned source indicates that it took the intervention of Ghanaian diplomats, present on site to boost the morale of André Ayew and his teammates, before the individual was interrupted. The latter, not identified at the moment, was entrusted to the Ivorian police who will manage the rest of the case.
This sad and unfortunate incident testifies the immensity of the disappointment of the Ghanaians who still aspire to win their fifth AFCON after the last in 1982.
