VAM News

THE Ilobu community in Irepodun local government area, Osun State has called on security to rescue them from the renewed hostility and killing by their neighboring community, Ifon-Osun.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of Ilobu Asake Development Union, Tairu Babatunde, the community woke up to the killing of a man allegedly by the Ifon-Osun people.

Ilobu people called on the security agencies to immediately arrest, investigate and charge the duo of Eesa of Ifon-Osun, Babatunde Oyetunji and one Prince Jide Akinyooye.

The statement reads,

“After touring all media houses and granting press conferences to issue threats on the lives of the people of Ilobu, Eesa of Ifon-Osun, Babatunde Oyetunji and a Prince of Ifon-Osun, Jide Akinyooye have finally carried out their threats by killing an indigene of Ilobu identified as Sodiq of Aganna’s compound in the early hours of Saturday, September 16, 2023.

“The whole world will recall that Jide Akinyooye was live on a radio programme on Friday, September 15, 2023, where he was laying unsubstantiated claims on Opapa and Gbere. He also reissued threats and sent messages of war on peace loving people of Ilobu.

“It will not be surprising that less than 24 hours after, Akinyooye and Oyetunji have carried out their threats by killing an innocent Sodiq, who was only doing his farming business at Opapa.

“Sodiq was declared missing by his family members on Friday evening after he had left home for the farm on Friday morning. His corpse was found on Saturday morning with bullet injuries on his back. A team of police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ilobu have removed the corpse.

“We’re concerned that Akinyooye that has been telling the world that there’s a case at the Appeal court, has resorted to violence, killing and maiming of our people.

“We once again call on the security agencies to immediately arrest, investigate and charge Babatunde Oyetunji and Jide Akinyooye for murder of Sodiq who was killed at his prime. This, we believe, will restore the confidence of every Ilobu son and daughter on the security architecture. Our people are now living in panic as we don’t know the next victim of Oyetunji and Akinyooye’s terror.

“We also call on Governor Ademola Adeleke to reign in on other belligerent elements in Ifon-Osun to avoid breakdown of law and order.

“In the meantime, the President of IDU, Pastor Olufemi Salako is urging every son and daughter of Ilobu to remain calm and peaceful in face of obvious provocation. Ours is a home of hospitality and we shall remain so.”

Police react

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.

She said investigation has commenced and member of the force are in control.

Meanwhile, the neighbouring community is yet to respond as at press time.
