REPORTER’S DAIRY: How Osun PDP Produced Adeleke, Babayemi As Candidates At 2022 Party Guber Primaries

The leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Tuesday conducted it’s gubernatorial primary election, where two candidates emerged.

Our reporter gathered that Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke emerged winner of the primary held at Osogbo Township Stadium, Osogbo supervised by the PDP National working committee (NWC) and electoral body.

Also, Dotun Babayemi, won at the parallel gubernatorial primary at WOCDIF Centre, Ring Road, Osogbo, the state capital.

Prior to the primary election day, one of the Aspirants, Sanya Omirin, withdrawn from the primary, pitched his tent with the Ademola Adeleke and the acting chairman of the party, Sunday Bisi while other aspirants, including Dele Adeleke, Akinbade Fatai, who withdrew, and aligned with Dotun Babayemi and former chairman Soji Adagunodo.

Also, the first runner up at 2018 PDP Primary, Akin Ogunbiyi withdrawn from the primary.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as Chairman of the Osun governorship primary, Adeleke was declared the winner of the contest.

The process was also supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and other leaders of the party in the state.

At the primary where Adeleke was elected were dignitaries that include; ex-PDP National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo; Dr. Lere Oyewumi, Prince Diran Odeyemi; members of the House of Representatives, Mr. Wole Oke and Bamidele Salam, as well as, ex-Osun PDP chairman, Ganiyu Olaoluwa, amongst others.

Also, at the primary held at WOCDIF Centre, former governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Deputy Governor, Erelu Olusola Obada; Tajudeen Oladipo, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun; Senator Olu Alabi; and ex-PDP National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, among others were present without the presence of INEC officials.

During the process, Oyinlola said the primary held at WOCDIF Centre is valid and lawful.

“Those of us here are the ones following the law and order,” he said.

While declaring Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary, the chairman of the Osun PDP primary election, Ewhrudjakpo, described the parallel primary organised elsewhere as illegal.

He said the only primary election recognised is the one organised by a committee set up by the National Working Committee of the party.

“Any other congress, apart from the one I supervised, will not be recognised by the national headquarters of the party,” he said.

While accepting the outcome of the primary, Dotun Babayemi described his emergence as a challenge to turn around the state for the betterment of its people.

In his speech, “I see my emergence today as a great challenge, a clarion call to a divine assignment to bring to bear, the vision of our founding fathers.

“This, I promise, shall be pursued with every fibre of our being. This is because Osun, which is our common heritage, has suffered enough degradation in the hands of interlopers.”

Speaking after the primary, Ademola Adeleke urged other aspirants to work together with him to win the governorship election in the state saying there was no victor, no vanquished in the primary election.

“I thank my co-contestants for their sportsmanship, I urge them to allow us to work together as one big family. No victor no vanquish we are all winners Let’s work for PDP, let’s work together to rescue the good people of Osun State for the current APC government,” he said. CONTINUE READING….
