No fewer than 114 inmates who escaped from Kabba Correctional Centre in Kogi state have been re-arrested.
Recall that gunmen attacked Kabba Correctional Centre in the early hours of Monday, freeing 240 inmates and killing two security operatives.
As at the time of attack, the custodial facility had 294 inmates.
Kogi correctional service spokesman, Sesan Nihi confirmed the number of re-arrests.
“We have about 114 inmates back now. Some of the inmates returned themselves but I cannot give a definite figure for that. In fact, two just returned not too long ago. Some of the inmates were brought back by their parents,” he said.
“We have a search party with other security agencies to capture the remaining inmates.”
Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, had said a special taskforce had been “activated” to recapture inmates who fled from centre.
Aregbesola said INTERPOL has been put on notice to look out for any of the inmates who may attempt to flee the country.
The incident is one of the recent jailbreaks in the country.
On April 5, gunmen raided Owerri prisons in Imo state, freeing more than 1,800 inmates.
