“Osun is lagging in Youth engagement and Productivity”, Youths drag Commissioner Olagunju

Residents and indigenes of Osun State have called out the Commissioner of Youth in the state over redundancy in ministry.

A post by an X user, Peter Akande on Sunday described the situation in youth engagement and lack of activities towards youth development by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Akande, in a post that has now gone viral on the social media platform, compared Osun with other neighbouring states like Oyo, Ekiti and Lagos states. He also queried where the Commissioner of Youth is?

He posted, “Where is the Osun State Commissioner for Youth?

“In a time where digital evolution and novel ideas are at the forefront.

“It’s so unfortunate that my dear State of Osun is lagging in Youth engagement and Productivity under the redundant and unknown Commissioner for Youth.

“We have other states in the neighbouring southwestern regions engage their youths in productive and meaningful youth programmes and engagement.

“But, sadly for us in the Virtuous State of Osun, it is a sheer retrogression we experience day-to-day.
No proposal for Youth Engagement. No plan for the Youths in Agriculture. No blueprint for Upskilling of Youths. Just poor Canva design littering his wall @ImoleYouths (Ministry of Youth Handle).

“The only achievement is the Geriontocracy-dubbed Youth programmes with a paltry sum of 30k. Is this how we are going to continue????” He queried.

Commenting on the post, Joe Steve wrote, “Not to defend them though, but this current government is a one-way government. These commissioners are just there to fill up numbers; they’re incapacitated.

“Aside from road projects, what else are they doing?
Now, guess the commissioner for work? As you were.”

Another user with the name Sapphire Sekere responded, “Sincerely, I am tired of complaining. Adeleke has made it obvious he his a 1 way man. No SMEs, No Agricultural revolution, nothing on tourism. Just road and flyovers”.

As he is being called out, InsightMedia gather the Commissioner is currently in Canada attending a drum festival.

According to posts on his Facebook post, Olagunju said he went to Canada to represent Governor Adeleke at the Canada Drum Festival.

Some analysts wonder why the Youth Commissioner is spending tax payers money on attending a drum festival and its relevance to his ministry.

Sunday Adewale while speaking with InsightMedia described the journey as a misplaced priority or lack of clear mandate of each ministry’s responsibilities by the government.

Adewale believes that “such event is reserved for the Ministry of Culture and has nothing to do with youth affairs.” He described the journey as another waste of taxpayers money.
