1. Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Tuesday directed heads of local government administration to take charge of the 23 council areas of the state. This follows the expiration of the statutory three-year tenure of the elected chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors.

2. President Bola Tinubu will today attend the inauguration of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, in Pretoria, South Africa. A statement yesterday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said President Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the swearing in ceremony.

3. The Presidency on Monday denied allegations by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) National Leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso that the Federal Government was planning to declare a state of emergency in Kano State. It described the alleged plot to suspend democratically elected structures in the Northwest state as a “mere rumour.’’

4. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo visited First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to celebrate the Sallah holiday, on Monday. Special Assistant to the First Lady on Media and Publicity, Busola Kukoyi, disclosed this in a tweet.

5. Tension arose in Bukur town of Jos South local government area of Plateau State, on Monday, after one person was shot dead, while two others were injured during an operation by a combined security task force comprising the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Police and the Operation Rainbow, enforcing the law banning roadside trading.

6. The Federal Government has said the United Arab Emirates, UAE, will soon lift the visa ban imposed on Nigerian travellers. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, said this during a 44-minute interview with the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu, Otega Ogra.

7. An unspecified number of bandits on Monday attacked the headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Command in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital. Operatives of the Command, however, repelled the attack, leading to a gun duel.

8. Residents of Idekan Farm Settlement in the Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State were left shocked when a man named Matthew James killed his 55-year-old wife, Etim Mary, due to suspicions of her having an extramarital affair. It was gathered that the incident took place around 8:00 pm on Sunday.

9. A woman identified as Zara was on Sunday reportedly stabbed to death by two men who had checked her into a hotel. The incident was said to have occurred at a hotel in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory.

10. Council bosses, under the auspices of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), are pushing for the adoption of a unified four-year tenure for elected local government officials, their President Aminu Muazu-Maifata said on Monday. Muazu-Maifata told reporters in Lafia, capital of Nasarawa State that the move would ensure good governance and quality representation at the grassroots.
