Southampton vs Chelsea: Lists of player likely to be mainstay of the Blues

Posted on August 30, 2022

Chelsea will face Southampton in the fifth week of the 2022/2023 Premier League season. Play at St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton vs Chelsea match will start at 01.45 WIB.

Against Southampton, Chelsea have a mission to repeat the success of the last meeting. At that time Chelsea were able to beat Southampton six goals without reply at home.

Chelsea are also unbeaten in their last five meetings against Southampton. They last lost to Southampton in December 2019.

Chelsea also have positive capital after last week’s dramatic win against Leicester City. Playing with 10 players, Chelsea were able to win 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea had to lose N’golo Kante and Conor Gallagher in the mission to beat Southampton at home. Here are four key Chelsea players for the mission to beat Southampton.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling is certainly the most wary player in Southampton’s defense. Sterling just got his best game at Chelsea against Leicester City last week.

Sterling became Chelsea’s hero when they beat Leicester City with 10 men. Playing on the left wing, Sterling scored a brace for Chelsea’s dramatic 2-1 win.

Sterling is ready to play from the early minutes to break down Southampton’s defense. Sterling is predicted to score again in the midst of a goal drought in the Blues attack line.

Mason Mount

Mason Mount was again a key player for Chelsea to beat Southampton. In the last meeting Mount became the Man of the Match when Chelsea beat Southampton 6-0 at home.

At that time, Mount scored two goals and one assist. Thomas Tuchel will again use Mount’s creativity to support Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz in attack.

Currently, Mount is still trying to restore his best form at Chelsea. Last season Mount performed well, scoring 13 goals and providing 16 assists under Thomas Tuchel.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly missed the Chelsea encounter with Leicester. However, he was back when the Blues met Southampton. Koulibaly will be an important player for Chelsea.

Previously Koulibaly got a red card when Chelsea lost against Leeds United in the third week. But Koulibaly’s appearance was quite good in Chelsea’s defense in the first two Premier League matches.

Koulibaly is predicted to be a formidable wall for Chelsea in the match against Southampton later. In addition to defending, Koulibaly could also have scored a goal like the match against Tottenham Hotspur in the second week of Chelsea.

Reece James

Reece James is one of Chelsea’s rising players. The right wingback has been a consistent performer under Thomas Tuchel.

James also performed brilliantly when Chelsea managed to overthrow Leicester City. James managed to score one assist for Raheem Sterling.

Not only that, James was also able to withstand the onslaught of Leicester City, which had a superior number of players. James became the defender with the best value in the match against Leicester City. CONTINUE READING……….
