REASONS OSUN RESIDENTS SHOULD VOTE FOR OYETOLA AGAIN

EDUCATION SECTOR: To contribute to the development of the education sector, and based on popular demand, Osun government embarked on the re-engineering of the existing policy and formulation of new strategic policy initiatives towards achieving the sector’s objectives under the Osun Development Plan.

Popular among the policies re-engineered are the restoration of nomenclatures and reversal from 4-5-3-4 to 6-3-3-4 system in tandem with the National Policy on Education. And also, the reversal of single uniform regime to the established and recognised public school uniform of each school. The implication of this is the restoration of a sense of identity and reduction in indiscipline and criminal tendencies masked behind the singularity, just as it revived the local economy as school uniform sellers and tailors alike are back to business.

The State Government has succeeded in carrying out the following in the sector:

1. Establishment of Osun Schools Management Commission.

2. To enhance quality of teaching and learning, the State has embarked on the recruitment of 2,500 new teachers for both primary and secondary schools.

3. Building of new schools and rehabilitation of existing ones.

4. Renovation and revitalization of offices of ZIEs/LIEs for effective monitoring and purchase of 6 operational Hilux vehicles.

5. Policy formulation focusing on controlling Examination malpractices.

6. Resuscitation of Lagbo Eto Eko Programme on Radio and TV for enlightenment purposes.

7. Resuscitation of Early Childhood Care Development Education to improve school enrolments.

8. Establishment of the Osun State Education Development Fund.

9. Purchase of instructional Materials and Science Laboratory Equipment.

10. Purchase of furniture for learners and teachers.

11. Renovation of 30 High Schools across the State at the ratio of one per LGA.

12. Periodic training for teachers to improve service delivery.

13. Establishment of Talent Hunt and Development Activities.

14. Introduction of Light Vocational Training domiciled in the schools for Senior Secondary Schools.

15. Constitution of Parent Forum and Board of Governors in schools as part of the strategic steps required for the improvement of Education and in line with the State policy on Responsible parenting.

16. Establishment of Computer-Based Test Centres in each of the six (6) Administrative Zones for examination purposes.

17. Constitution of Governing councils for state –owned tertiary Institutions.

18. Introduction of Osun State Annual Education Conference.

19. Procurement and distribution of COVID-19 protective and sanitation equipment to public schools.

20. Creation of Information Desk in government public schools for attending to parents as and when due and to ensure the sustenance of healthy relationship between the school management and parents.

21. Scholarship and other assistance for three hundred (300) brilliant indigent students in the year 2020.

22. Payment of WAEC fees for four hundred and five (405) indigents students throughout the state (2020).

23. Appointment of Education Marshal for curbing loitering of students in the streets and for enforcement of discipline across public schools in the state.

24. Special monitoring for WASSCE and other external examination, mobilising of monitoring officers for the eradication of examination malpractices.

25. Organisation of state-wide Essay competition among secondary school students on the topic ‘’Osun State Of My Dream’’ to commemorate the 66th Birthday of the Governor .

26. O’Meals feeding to primary 1- 4 in the state, leading to increase in public primary school enrolment.

27. Procurement and distribution of science equipment and materials to secondary schools in the state.

28. Resuscitation of Guidance and counseling units in schools to reduce aggressive behaviour and indiscipline.

Young Scientists Presidential Award
The State of Osun, represented by Abdullahi Akintade from Osogbo Grammar School at the 4th edition of the 2019 774 Young Science Competition organised by the presidency, demonstrated excellence in the competition to emerge the “Young Scientist of the year”.

The competition, which was the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, brought together science students from across the 774 local governments of Nigeria. Abdullahi Akintade, a student from Osun, emerged the best and was awarded in Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, 16 March, 2020.

Osun produced the third best National Essayist on COVID-19 pandemic

The State of Osun represented by Christiana Timileyin Akinlaja, SS3 student of Fakunle Grammar School, Osogbo, won third position in the National Essay competition on COVID-19 with the theme “How should government and corporate organization prepare towards post COVID-19 and future pandemic?”

Technical and Vocational Education in Osun State

The under-listed activities were carried out by Governor Oyetola-led administration:

(i) The release of funds for the training of fifteen (15) teachers on employability skills by Wadhwani Foundation.

(ii) Payment of one hundred million naira only (N100,000,000.00) to skill ‘G’ Nigeria Ltd for the training of teachers in science subjects and eight (8) upgraded trades across the state owned government technical colleges. Fifty-six science subject teachers (physics, chemistry and Biology) were selected from government technical colleges and public secondary schools. About seventy (70) teachers are expected to be trained in the eight (8) upgraded trades across the nine (9) Technical colleges. These include: Electrical installation, shoe making and leather works, Plumbing, and Pipe Fittings, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning repair, Carpentry and joinery, Fabrication and welding, Automobile Mechanics and Ceramics.

Osun Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme (O-Meals)

Achievements of Osun Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme:

(i). Recruitment of two thousand, one hundred and ninety-nine (2,199) new set of cooks.

(ii). Equipment of the vendors with cooking utensils.

(iii). Feeding of pupils with protein enriched food (Egg, Fish, and chicken &beef) and fruits.

(iv). Provision of basic medical services for cooks in order to ensure that their health and well-being are taken care of.

(v). De-worming of school pupils twice every school session.

(vi). Provision of anti-Covid 19 personal protection equipment for cooks.

(vii). Regular training of cooks on hygiene and inter-personal relations.

State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)

1. Construction of 37 blocks of 202 classrooms to accommodate 10,150 students/pupils/teachers in 37 schools.

2. Repair/renovation works at 32 Government elementary schools.

3. Procurement and supply of 6220 units of pupils ‘furniture for 12, 440 pupils/ students.

4. Procurement and supply of 967 teachers’ furniture for 967 teachers.

5. Construction of 57 units of 6 holes squatting toilets with deep well for 57 schools across the state.

6. Drilling and reticulation of borehole at 9 public schools.

7. Construction of perimeter fence in 30 schools to avoid encroachment and provide security for pupils/students and government properties.

8. Distribution of sporting materials to schools.

9. Organisation of school excursions to Asa Dam, Ilorin; Asejire Dam, Ibadan; and Ilorin and Ibadan Airports.

10. Organisation of Asa Day Festival at Osogbo Grammar School as well as other public schools across the State for the promotion of rich cultural heritage among pupils.

11. Distribution of instructional materials to public primary schools across the state.

12. Training of 1,620 teachers for effective teaching and learning.

13. Distribution of COVID-19 preventive materials to pupils and teachers in public primary schools.

14. Training workshop for teachers on preventive measure against COVID-19 Pandemic.

15. Provision of furniture to schools.
