10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Severe Beating at Home, Hospital Staff Say

Tragedy struck a local pediatric unit two months ago when a 10-year-old girl was admitted in critical condition following a severe beating, hospital staff report.

According to nurses at the pediatric unit, the girl arrived unconscious and restless, with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 11 out of 15, indicating significant neurological impairment. During the initial assessment, medical personnel noticed multiple marks and injuries across her body, raising suspicions of abuse.

Under pressure from the medical team, the child’s mother admitted to physically assaulting her daughter after the girl allegedly used her phone without permission.

Doctors ordered further tests, including a CT scan, to assess potential brain injury. Tragically, the girl suffered cardiac arrest and passed away before the results could be completed.

Hospital staff described the case as particularly heartbreaking, noting that the child had a known sickle cell condition (SS genotype), a factor her parents would have been aware of. Experts say children with this condition can be especially vulnerable to trauma and complications.

“This case is a stark reminder for parents and caregivers to know the medical history of their children and exercise caution in discipline,” one nurse stated.
