A ponmo seller in Akure has been arrested and set to be prosecuted after an environmental sanitation inspection team reportedly uncovered buckets containing human feces around the area where she processes cowhide for onward sale to consumers.
A video making the rounds on social media shows the chairman of Akure South Local Government Area at the processing centre located at Igboliki Street, Akure, the state capital.
The video showed the feces inside two buckets inside the processing center. The chairman ordered the arrest of the ponmo seller as well as the sealing of the processing center.
The discovery has raised disturbing questions about the safety of ponmo supplied to markets and consumed by unsuspecting residents.
