Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has appointed 1,720 political aides as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation.
The appointments comprise 10 immediate past local government chairmen who were named Special Advisers and 1,710 others appointed as Executive Assistants.
The new appointees were sworn in on Wednesday at the Abakaliki Township Stadium during a ceremony held alongside events marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary and Ebonyi State’s 30th year.
At the event, Nwifuru also presented staff of office to three traditional rulers from Afikpo, Edda and Ishielu Local Government Areas.
The governor used the occasion to reflect on Ebonyi’s journey since its creation three decades ago, saying the state had developed from its early beginnings into an established part of Nigeria.
He said the anniversary should also provide an opportunity for residents and leaders to consider the future of the state and what would be left for younger generations.
Nwifuru said his administration had continued to focus on education, human capital development, infrastructure and creating opportunities for residents since taking office in 2023.
