El-Rufai Gets Appointment While In Detention

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

El-Rufai was appointed alongside Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, who will serve as chairman of the council.

The appointments were announced on Thursday by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council and Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku.

Senator Austin Akobundu was named Director-General and Campaign Manager, with responsibility for coordinating the campaign’s operations and implementing its plans.

The campaign council will have six Deputy Directors-General overseeing different operational areas, while 30 directors will handle specific responsibilities.

Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, was appointed head of the Media and Communications Directorate, while former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, will lead Contact and Mobilisation.

Economist and banker, Mohammed Hayatudeen, will chair the Policy Team, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi, Professor Kingsley Moghalu and other members serving on the team.

Former Edo State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, was also appointed chairman of the Campaign Advisory Board.

The campaign council is expected to coordinate Atiku’s presidential campaign activities across the country as preparations begin for the 2027 election.

The structure will focus on issues such as the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power, according to the campaign.

The ADC had earlier submitted Atiku’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The party also submitted the name of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his vice-presidential candidate.
