THE Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended the Electoral Officer of Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State, Mrs. Mobolade Akole, indefinitely for allegedly failing to report for duty as and when due.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Mutiu Agboke, also announced the appointment of Mr. Bisi Farukami as Acting Electoral Officer for the local government as part of efforts to strengthen the commission’s operations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agboke disclosed this during a visit to the local government to assess the activities and performance of staff.
He expressed displeasure over the conduct of the suspended officer, stressing the need for electoral officials to demonstrate discipline, commitment and diligence in the discharge of their duties.
The REC warned that staff who failed to perform their responsibilities diligently or report for duty as and when due would face appropriate disciplinary measures.
He said the commission would not tolerate indiscipline, noting that the commitment and professionalism of its personnel were essential to ensuring a credible electoral process.
Agboke urged staff to remain dedicated to their duties and ensure that the commission was adequately prepared for the 2027 general elections.
