Four Dead, One Injured In Fresh Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

News Update

Four people have been killed and one other injured in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said eight people were involved in the crash, which involved a Mitsubishi Cabstar and a HOWO truck.

According to the FRSC, the Cabstar was travelling at high speed when its driver attempted to overtake and rammed into the moving truck.

The agency identified speeding, wrongful overtaking and driver fatigue as contributing factors.

Four male adults died in the crash, while another male adult was injured. Three other people escaped without injuries.

The injured victim was rescued and taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara.

The crash occurred as motorists continue to face severe congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to ongoing repairs on the Kara Bridge.

The Federal Government began a two-week rehabilitation of the bridge on September 8, reducing available road space and causing prolonged traffic delays. The repairs are expected to continue until September 22.

The FRSC has urged motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and dangerous overtaking, especially during long-distance and early-morning journeys.
