OOPA Hails Traditional Leadership of Oba Makama on 14th Coronation Anniversary

The Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, has congratulated the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Dr Oyelude Hameed Makama, on his 14th anniversary on the throne.

In a congratulatory message, issued by Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Raji, the association said the monarch’s 14 years in office represented more than a ceremonial milestone, highlighting what it described as the continuing relevance of traditional institutions in society.

OOPA said Oba Makama’s reign had reinforced the role of the traditional institution as a link between cultural heritage, community development and the demands of contemporary society.

The association described the Olowu’s reign as a period that had placed Kuta prominently on the historical map while presenting the palace as an institution capable of promoting development, unity and responsible citizenship.

OOPA particularly commended Oba Makama for preserving established customs and traditions while responding to the realities and aspirations of modern society.

According to the association, the monarch’s ability to connect traditional values with contemporary aspirations reflects the changing role of traditional rulers in nation-building.

“Traditional institutions remain important cords that must be strengthened for peace, stability and communal prosperity. When properly positioned, the palace can become a sanctuary for culture, a catalyst for development and a unifying force capable of nurturing responsible generations,” OOPA stated.

The association said the relevance of traditional leadership extended beyond the preservation of titles and customs, noting that monarchs could use their influence to promote peace, development and the advancement of their communities.

OOPA further stated that the Olowu of Kuta’s 14-year reign demonstrated how traditional institutions could participate in broader societal renewal and contribute to national development.

The association said Nigeria’s reset should not be viewed solely through political institutions, arguing that traditional institutions were also deeply rooted in the history and collective consciousness of communities.

“On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of OOPA, we celebrate with the good people of Kuta and congratulate His Royal Majesty for 14 years of vibrant leadership, cultural preservation and service to his people,” the association said.

OOPA prayed for continued wisdom, good health and many more years of service for Oba Makama as he continues his reign on the ancestral throne of Kuta.
