Kano State has emerged as the flashpoint, with members of the Kwankwasiya Movement clashing with legacy NDC officials over alleged domination of the nomination process by former Governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s supporters.

Reports of unofficial candidate lists circulating on social media have further fueled mistrust. Kwankwaso has reportedly threatened to leave the party if the disputed nominations are upheld.
In the South-East, members of the Obidient Movement have raised concerns over alleged deception and undue fees for aspirants, accusing party leaders of undermining internal democracy.
Despite the unrest, NDC insists no official results have been released. Party spokesperson Osas Director urged members to disregard circulating lists, emphasizing the leadership’s commitment to transparency and dialogue.
Tensions have spilled into public protests, with youths in Enugu demanding credible candidates and fairness in the selection process. Meanwhile, presidential candidate Peter Obi has filed a lawsuit against former ally Kenneth Okonkwo over allegations of money collection and manipulation during the primaries—claims Obi denies as false and malicious.

Political analysts warn the crisis reflects deeper structural challenges. Sam Amadi of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics said NDC’s rapid growth and influx of new actors exposed weaknesses in its internal systems, risking legal battles and reputational damage ahead of the 2027 elections.
