IYDPA slams Osun Govt over alleged deployment of Amotekun operatives to Adeleke family’s energy facility in Ondo

A civil society organisation, Initiative for Youth Development and Peace Advocacy, IYDPA, has criticised the Osun State Government over the alleged deployment of operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps to a private energy facility owned by Dr. Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Ondo State.

In a statement issued Tuesday in Osogbo and signed by its Director General, Abdulrahman Al Amin, and Spokesperson, Akinwale Kehinde, the group described the development as “troubling” and demanded a full explanation from the state government.

IYDPA alleged that no fewer than 50 Amotekun operatives have been stationed at Pacific Energy Company, located in Omotosho Village along the Benin/Ore Road in Ondo State.

The group said the deployment raises serious questions about the priorities of the Osun administration at a time when many communities in the state continue to grapple with insecurity, including kidnapping and armed robbery.

“The Amotekun Corps was established to complement conventional security agencies in protecting lives and property within Osun State. It should not be diverted to private assignments outside its jurisdiction,” the statement read.

“The people of Osun deserve to know why a security outfit funded by taxpayers is allegedly being used to protect a private commercial enterprise outside the state while insecurity remains a concern in many communities.”

IYDPA also raised concern over reports that one of the operatives, an indigene of Egbedore Local Government allegedly deployed to the facility, died after sustaining severe injuries in an accident while travelling to Ondo State. The group alleged the operative did not receive adequate support after the incident.

As of press time, the Osun State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations.
