The Lagos Waste Management Authority has conducted a health and safety training exercise for highway sweepers to enhance their skills and efficiency.
The agency announced this in a statement on Saturday, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, LAWMA, Mukaila Sanusi.
“The training focused on the proper use of personal protective equipment, including gloves, masks, and safety boots, as well as the safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials,” the statement read in part.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said during the training, held along the Ikate–Elegushi corridor of the Lekki–Epe Expressway, LAWMA was ever committed to the safety and well-being of its frontline sanitation workers.
According to Gbadegesin, the exercise formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen its safety protocols and ensure that highway sweepers were adequately equipped and trained to carry out their duties in a safe and professional manner.
He emphasised that frontline sanitation workers operate in challenging environments and must be provided with the right knowledge, tools, and protective gear to minimise occupational risks and enhance productivity.

Gbadegesin maintained that the training also reinforced LAWMA’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards while prioritising the health and safety of personnel responsible for keeping Lagos roads clean.
The LAWMA boss added that the authority would continue to invest in regular capacity-building programmes and safety awareness initiatives to sustain a culture of safety across its operations.
He commended the dedication of the highway sweepers and encouraged them to consistently adhere to safety guidelines and use protective equipment properly in the discharge of their duties.
