APC senatorial aspirant urges support for Tinubu

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Gyang Zi, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in rebuilding the country, which he said was severely weakened by past administrations.

Speaking with journalists in Jos on Thursday, Zi, who is aspiring to represent Plateau North on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, said: “The biggest mistake we made as a nation was changing the government in 2015, led by former President Goodluck Jonathan. We knew we had challenges, but internal sabotage led to insecurity and systemic collapse.”

Zi noted that Jonathan’s administration had made progress in areas such as education and poverty reduction but was undermined by internal and external factors, paving the way for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Buhari wasn’t prepared for leadership, and between 2015 and 2023, Nigeria suffered immensely—economically, security-wise, and educationally. The system was completely destroyed. We regressed over 50 years,” Zi said.

The SAN praised Tinubu’s efforts, adding, “If you look at the governance style of President Tinubu, no part of the country is left behind, unlike in the past when some regions were neglected due to political calculations.

“Today, every part of the country is represented in the national security architecture. Even states like Plateau, where the President did not win, are being carried along. Resources are being made available to governors to develop their states, and security architecture has improved compared with previous administrations.”

Zi emphasised that rebuilding Nigeria requires time and collective support. “We must give Mr President time. We need patriotic individuals in governance positions for Nigeria to make steady progress.”

On the recent court judgment extending the tenure of Local Government chairmen in Plateau State, Zi said: “If the intention is genuine, it is a good development, but if it’s born out of mischief, it could create problems.”

Regarding the newly signed Electoral Act, Zi described the law as “perfect” but cautioned that electoral malpractice remains a concern: “The law liberalises the process. The challenge is our nature as a people. Sincere actors will ensure electronic transmission works, while corrupt ones may manipulate it. The provision allows manual entry when there is a network issue, so the intention of the law is to ensure nobody is disenfranchised. The results depend on the sincerity of those managing the process.”

Speaking on his senatorial ambitions, Zi assured Plateau North constituents of quality representation. “I promise to be a servant leader, always available to listen to their concerns and address them,” he said.

He added that his legal experience would help him effectively represent the region, ensuring fair allocation of development projects and resources. He urged voters to support him, noting: “Together, we can build a better Plateau North and a stronger Nigeria.”
