Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a 35-year-old man and the abduction of his wife in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi in the early hours of Friday.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said in a statement that the victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was attacked at his residence by suspected criminals.
Detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene to begin investigations.
“The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” Usman said.

He added that the Kebbi Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, to take over the case to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted woman and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Usman also urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and emergency situations to enable a swift police response.
Mohammed Yauri, a senior brother of the abducted woman, Zainab Mohammed Yauri, confirmed to Channels Television that gunmen stormed the house, shot Garba, and took his wife to an unknown location.

Garba was buried later on Friday at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery according to Islamic rites.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in the region, following recent attacks in neighbouring states that have left several people dead and others injured.
