Finding work in Nigeria’s capital continues to be a major challenge for many residents, as jobseekers share stories of frustration and financial hardship.
One jobseeker, who has been searching for employment for over a year, described the difficulty of attending interviews without even having money for transport. “Living in Abuja is not easy,” the individual said. “It is when you have money, you go to job interviews. I don’t have any money to even go to an interview. If you don’t know anybody, they are not going to give you a job.”
The jobseeker’s experience reflects a wider pattern in the city, where many unemployed Nigerians face barriers such as lack of connections, high competition for positions, and limited financial resources to participate in the formal job market.
Experts warn that the combination of high unemployment and rising living costs in Abuja is placing increasing stress on young professionals and graduates, forcing some to rely on informal work or assistance from friends and family.
“The reality is that many capable candidates are left behind simply because they lack the resources to navigate the recruitment process,” said an employment analyst.
