Terrorists attack Borno settlement, kill one, rustle 1,400 sheep — Report

Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked a nomadic settlement in Wuturo, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one herder and rustling about 1,400 sheep.

The Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, noting that one person was also injured.

Daso said the settlement was invaded on Tuesday at about 22:30 hours by a group riding five motorcycles.

The statement reads, “The Borno State Police Command condemned the recent attack on a nomadic settlement at Wuturo, Konduga Local Government Area, allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

“Following a report received by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Konduga, at the Konduga Police Division that on 10th March, 2026, at about 2230hrs, unknown gunmen riding on five motorcycles invaded the settlement.”

According to Daso, preliminary investigations revealed that during the attack, one Ahmadu Baida, 40, sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while another, Mohammadu Baida, 30, sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg.

“The attackers also rustled about 1,400 sheep belonging to the herdsmen,” he added.

He further noted that upon receipt of the report, a combined team of the police, military, and other security stakeholders, including the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Konduga, swiftly mobilised to the scene.

“The victims were evacuated to the hospital, where Ahmadu Baida was certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor, while the injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding positively,” Daso said.

He noted that in response to the incident, and following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Naziru Abdulmajid, the command has activated coordinated operational strategies with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to track down the perpetrators, prevent further attacks, and recover the rustled livestock.

“Tactical and intelligence assets have also been strategically deployed across the affected area and adjoining communities to strengthen security presence,” he said.

“The Borno State Police Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” he added.

The PPRO called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or movements.

It was reported that this development comes days after the terrorists launched a coordinated attack on an army base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, engaging troops in a fierce gun battle that reportedly lasted nearly 24 hours and led to the death of some soldiers, including a commanding officer.
