An evangelist who identified himself as Mohammed Mohammed has shared a dramatic account of the persecution he says he faced after converting from Islam to Christianity, claiming the experience strengthened his resolve to preach the gospel.
According to the preacher, the day he embraced Christianity marked a turning point in his life that was met with violent opposition from members of his own family. He alleged that his uncle attacked him with a machete and that other relatives severely assaulted him before abandoning him, believing he would not survive.
Despite the ordeal, Mohammed said he remained committed to his new faith and later founded a ministry called “The Gospel of Jesus Christ Must Be Preached.” He explained that the name reflects his determination to continue evangelizing regardless of the risks involved.
The evangelist further claimed that he is currently providing shelter for more than 100 people who, like him, converted from Islam to Christianity and were allegedly rejected by their families. According to him, many of these individuals have nowhere else to go and fear for their safety.
He also recounted the story of an elderly man, said to be over 80 years old, who he claimed survived after being thrown from a building. Mohammed said the man is now among those living under his care.
Mohammed argued that the situation facing religious converts in parts of northern Nigeria is often more severe than what is publicly reported, alleging that many cases of intimidation and violence go undocumented.
While calling for prayers rather than confrontation, the evangelist urged people to support converts who may be facing rejection from their communities.
“We are not stopping until every soul hears the gospel of Jesus Christ,” he said, describing the mission as a matter of life and faith.
His claims highlight the sensitive and often complex issue of religious conversion in some communities, where differences in belief can lead to deep social tensions.
Observers note that religious freedom is guaranteed under Nigeria’s constitution, though incidents of religious conflict and intolerance have occasionally been reported in different parts of the country.
