A man has shared a chilling account of how he narrowly survived a violent robbery after mistakenly entering the wrong ride-hailing vehicle while returning from a concert.
The victim said the incident occurred in the early hours of November 30 after he attended singer Joshua Baraka’s concert. After leaving the event with friends and spending some time at a bar, he ordered a ride through a ride-hailing app at around 3 a.m.
According to him, the driver asked him to meet at a nearby fuel station. When he arrived, he entered a car with another man already inside, assuming it was his ride. He admitted he did not check the vehicle’s plate number on the app before getting in.
During the trip, the driver allegedly began driving recklessly and later diverted to a deserted road under the pretense of taking a shortcut. Two men soon appeared on the road, and the driver stopped the car.
The attackers reportedly dragged him out of the vehicle, strangled and beat him while demanding his phone password and bank card PINs. After robbing him of his phone, cash, national ID, and bank cards, they continued assaulting him before he eventually lost consciousness.
Believing he was dead, the attackers fled the scene.
The man said he regained consciousness about 20 minutes later with injuries to his face and nose. With the little money left in his pocket, he managed to hire a motorcycle to get home before later reporting the incident to the police.

He urged people who use ride-hailing services to always verify vehicle plate numbers and driver details before entering a car, warning that a simple mistake could turn dangerous. He also called on ride-hailing companies to introduce stronger verification systems to help protect passengers.
