“I Was Fired After Rejecting My Gay Director’s Sexual Advance,” Ex-corp Member Reveals

A former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has shared how he allegedly lost his job at a prominent real estate company in Abuja after rejecting a sexual advance from the firm’s director.

The young man said he was posted to the company during his service year and was assigned to manage media and content production for the organization. According to him, the director was rarely seen at the office due to frequent travels.

However, he eventually met the director while working on a content idea that required the executive’s participation. The meeting led to a video shoot which reportedly performed well online, gaining about one million views on TikTok.

Following the successful project, the director invited him to stay back after office hours one evening to discuss more media ideas. The pair later went out to a restaurant where they had dinner and discussed his background and career ambitions.

“At the time, I felt it was a great opportunity to connect with someone influential,” he said, adding that he returned home grateful for what he believed was a professional breakthrough.

Days later, the director again asked him to remain after work hours for another outing. They visited a different venue, described as a lounge with a restaurant section, where they had dinner before moving to a private seating area.

According to the former corps member, the situation changed unexpectedly when the director allegedly made an inappropriate physical advance toward him.

“I immediately objected and told him I was leaving,” he said. “He initially threatened that I could lose my job if I walked away, but I still left.”

The young man said he stayed away from work over the weekend and was later informed by the company’s human resources department that his services were no longer required.

“Before the afternoon that same day, I received my dismissal letter,” he recalled, noting that the development left him distressed as finding a new Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) in Abuja can be challenging for corps members.

He further claimed that days after his dismissal, the director contacted him again and allegedly offered him a senior role if he returned to the company.

“I declined because I felt the offer came with expectations I was not willing to meet,” he said.

Reflecting on the experience, the former corps member advised young professionals and newcomers in Abuja to be cautious when building connections.

“Many people say Abuja is all about networking, but you have to be careful,” he said. “Sometimes what appears to be help or mentorship may come with conditions.”
