THE Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has stressed the need for religious activities held at night to be suspended due to the continuous rise in insecurity in the state.
According to the police boss in the state, religious and community leaders, irrespective of faith, should desist from holding night programmes pending when there will be proper security arrangements.
Speaking with newsmen while parading some suspected kidnappers at the state headquarters of the command in Akure, the state capital, Lawal stated that religious leaders must endeavour to contact the police for security advice if such service is essential.
The police commissioner’s stance was on the recent abduction of six worshippers at a Celestial church in Uso community, Owo Local Council Area of the state, a few days ago.
Lawal, who revealed that five of the abducted worshippers are pregnant women and one physically challenged, expressed concern that a church premises had been turned into a maternity centre.

He said, “I do not know when a church became a maternity home or hospital. If someone is pregnant, the best place is a hospital or a maternity home.
“However, we have sent a signal to all area commanders advising religious leaders, Muslim, Christian, and traditional worshippers, to forthwith suspend night worship for now because of the security challenges.
