Fubara: Rivers court delivers judgement over Impeachment plots

News Update

There is respite for the Rivers Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike, as the State High Court sitting in Oyigbo has declined to grant a perpetual injunction seeking to restrain the Chief Judge of the state, Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, from acting on impeachment requests by the lawmakers against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.

This was disclosed in a statement by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Olayinka, the presiding judge ruled that the court could not issue the requested order, noting that the matter is already before the Court of Appeal. The judge subsequently adjourned the case indefinitely, pending the determination of the appeal.

The development means that the High Court will take no further action on the matter until the appellate court delivers its judgment on the issues surrounding the impeachment process.

Recalls that Justice Amadi had declined to constitute a seven-member panel to act on the Assembly impeachment, citing court orders.

The Rivers Assembly, led by Amaewhule, served Fubara an impeachment notice and confirmed that the chief judge received the notice.
