Two Nigerians arrested over colleague’s death after fight over woman in India

News Update

Police have arrested two Nigerian men in Pune for allegedly killing a compatriot during a heated brawl over a woman in India, reports from India Today have revealed.

The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Chukwudi Okafor and 34-year-old Samuel Eze, were accused of beating their friend, Emeka Christian, to death in the Pisoli-Phursungi area in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased, a 40-year-old garment trader, was legally resident in India with a visa valid until 2027.

According to local reports, he had joined the suspects and others at the flat of a Nigerian woman for a late-night gathering on Sunday.

Police said an argument broke out after Christian allegedly objected to one of the men’s romantic involvement with the host.

“A quarrel began over the relationship and continued into the early hours.

The victim raised objections, which sparked the confrontation,” a police officer told India Today.

Investigators said the disagreement turned violent at about 3:00am as Christian attempted to leave the apartment.

“He was attacked with a hard object inside the flat and later in the parking lot as he tried to walk away,” Senior Police Inspector Mansing Patil said.

Christian collapsed after the assault and was taken to hospital by the vice president of the Nigerian Students’ Union in Pune, Gift Utah, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Indian authorities confirmed Okafor and Eze are in custody while a search has been launched for additional suspects, with officers saying up to four people may have taken part in the attack.
